With HIV prevention budgets under increasing pressure, effective and efficient communication is more vital than ever. As prevention options expand from condoms and HIV self-testing to multiple forms of PrEP tailored, impactful demand creation is essential to drive uptake and support informed choice.

This session will explore how to generate demand using data-informed strategies, virtual platforms, unconventional channels like dating apps, and tools such as Google Trends to reach priority audiences at scale particularly in resource-constrained settings. It will also showcase practical examples from PRs/SRs and highlight opportunities for collaboration in the virtual communication space.

Objectives:

  • To highlight the importance of demand creation in the context of shrinking HIV prevention budgets and expanding prevention options.
  • To demonstrate innovative, data-driven strategies for generating demand in resource-constrained settings, including virtual approaches.
  • To link demand creation efforts to GC7 reprioritisation and prepare for GC8, especially with the scale-up of long-acting injectable PrEP (LEN).
